Traveling by Air

Because of Penn State Beaver's close proximity to the Pittsburgh International Airport, it's easy to book a direct flight from many major cities throughout the United States. When planning your visit, you'll find that the Pittsburgh International Airport's website, flypittsburgh.com, is a very useful tool. Once you arrive, you'll need to rent a car or go to the taxi stand outside of the landside terminal.

Renting a Car

The following agencies have a counter near Baggage Claim in the landside terminal:

After arriving in the Pittsburgh area, we highly recommend that you arrange to rent a car to get to and from campus as well as to explore the area around campus. The Pittsburgh International Airport has a large selection of rental car companies located in their baggage claim area.

Prior to renting a car, it's important to know the laws and regulations for renting a car in Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, you must be over the age of 21 to rent a car. However, if you're under the age of 25, many car rental companies will add an additional charge and require a valid credit card and driver’s license at the time of rental.

Finding a Taxi

If you choose to travel to the campus by taxi, you'll be able to obtain a taxi at the airport by exiting on the lower level of the landside terminal through the “Commercial” doors. However, in order to return to the airport from the campus, you'll need to schedule a taxi to take you there. The cost of a taxi trip from the airport to the campus is approximately $35 (one way). From the Pittsburgh International Airport: $35 one way
From the Train Station: $90 one way
From the Bus station: $90 or $35 one way (depending on your final stop location)

    Traveling by Train

    If you choose to travel by train, the closest Amtrak station is located in Pittsburgh at 1100 Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. This station is approximately 40 minutes northwest of Beaver campus. Unfortunately, there is no direct bus or shuttle service available from the train station to the campus, so we strongly recommend that you arrange for a rental car. However, if you decide to book a taxi to the campus, the cost will be approximately $90 (one way). To learn more about purchasing an Amtrak ticket, please visit Amtrak’s website.

    Traveling by Bus

    If you chose to travel by bus, a Greyhound station is located at the Pittsburgh Intermodal Station at 55 Eleventh Street, Pittsburgh, PA 1222. The Greyhound bus also offers a stop at the Pittsburgh International Airport, but times for bus schedules may vary. We recommend that you inquire about a bus schedule when purchasing your bus ticket.

    If traveling to the intermodal station, we recommend that you arrange for a rental car. A taxi from the bus station to Penn State Beaver will cost approximately $90 (one way). For more information about taxi services in the Pittsburgh area, please refer to our Traveling by Taxi page.

    Unless you plan to take the bus to the airport, it is highly recommended that you rent a car for the second half of your trip to campus. For more information about renting a car, please refer to our section on Traveling by Car. However, if you choose to take a taxi from the train station, it will cost approximately $90 (one way).
