Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Don't miss this amazing musical thriller presented by the Center Theatre Players and directed by Sandy Reigel, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 24, 25 and 26. This Tony Award-winning musical thriller is considered to be composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece. Based on the infamous 19th century English legend, Sweeney Todd is a barber bent on murderous vengeance against a corrupt judge.

Todd’s bloody revenge includes a cutthroat partnership with Mrs. Lovett, an enterprising businesswoman who produces the most uniquely-flavored meat pies in London. The play’s dark humor, haunting music, and menacing atmosphere create an unforgettable theatrical experience. "Sweeney Todd" is generously co-sponsored by a gift from Harper & Hodge. 

The play contains scenes of violence and is intended for mature audiences.

Advance ticket purchase for "Sweeney Todd" is strongly recommended. For information, contact the Brodhead Cultural Center at 724-773-3610 or rxm70@psu.edu Visa, MasterCard, check, and cash are welcome for advance sales. All seats are general admission. Tickets are $15, regardless of age, and auditorium doors open at 6:45 p.m. If available, tickets will be sold the night of each show in the lobby beginning at 6:00 p.m. Credit cards cannot be used for ticket sales on show nights.

Cultural Center details

  • All shows begin at 7:30 p.m.
  • Shows are FREE, with the exception of the musical thriller "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," which is $15 per person.
  • Shows are held at the J.P. Giusti Amphitheater, with the exception of "Sweeney Todd," which will be held in the auditorium of the Student Union Building. 
  • In the event of inclement weather, shows scheduled for the amphitheater will move into the auditorium.
