Faculty member has article accepted in mathematics journal
Zhongyuan Che, associate professor of mathematics at Penn State Beaver, has had her article, ‘Existence of perfect matchings in a plane bipartite graph’ accepted for publication in the Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal. Che is the 2008 recipient of the Penn State Beaver Advisory Board/Michael Baker Corporation Faculty Excellence in Research Award and was chair of the 2009 Undergraduate Research Fair at Beaver campus.
Che holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and a master’s degree in computer science from Wesleyan University and a master’s and bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Shandong University, China.

Musical group The Clarks to present free concert on Sept. 24
Pittsburgh's favorite band, The Clarks, will present a free concert at Penn State Beaver on Thursday, Sept. 24 at the Brodhead Cultural Center's J. P. Giusti Amphitheater. The show is Beaver campus' Fifth Annual Free Fall Concert. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to the Beaver campus gym.
Entry into the Brodhead Cultural Center will begin at 6 p.m. The Chris Higbee Project will open the concert at 7 p.m. followed by The Clarks at 8:30 p.m. No tickets are required. Beaver will host Annual Penn State Day/Homecoming
Penn State Beaver will host its annual Penn State Day and Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 24 with a variety of events scheduled on campus throughout the day. This year the campus’ annual Scholarship Donor and Recipient event will be held as a luncheon in the Lodge of the Student Union Building. Other events will include a campus carnival, alumni athletic events, and a tailgate and game watch for the Penn State vs. Michigan game. (Schedule will depend on game time.) A bonfire will be held on campus the night before.

As the seasonal and H1N1 flu season approaches, the public is encouraged to visit the Penn State Beaver Web site at http://www.beaver.psu.edu. There, visitors will find a "Stay Healthy" link that offers information about flu prevention, symptoms and what to do if you have the flu, whether it is seasonal or H1N1. Other helpful sites to obtain flu information are available at http://www.flu.psu.edu/ and http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu online.
Lady Lions celebrate weekend wins
On Friday, Sept. 11, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team travelled to Penn State Worthington Scranton where they defeated Worthington-Scranton, 25-11, 25-10, and 25-9 and Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 25-9, 25-13, and 25-8. On Saturday, Sept. 12, Beaver defeated Penn State Hazleton, 25-11, 25-16, and 25-7 and, in Saturday’s second game, defeated the Penn College Wildcats in five sets, 25-20, 21-25, 25-10, 22-25, 15-12.
The Beaver Lady Lions are 5-0 in the PSUAC and 6-6 overall. On Saturday, Sept. 19 Beaver will travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a 2 p.m. match-up.

Beaver soccer team has winning weekend
The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team had a winning weekend at home when they defeated Penn State Mont Alto, 3-0, and Penn State Schuylkill, 5-1, on Saturday, Sept. 12 and Sunday, Sept. 13, respectively, at Green Valley Park in Rochester, PA. On Sunday, the Beaver Athletic Department gave away Beaver soccer T-shirts and varsity schedule posters.
Beaver’s soccer team is now 3-0 in the PSUAC and 3-3 overall. Their next game is 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19 at Penn State Brandywine.
