Memorial service planned for Fayette chancellor


A memorial service will be held to remember Chancellor Emmanuel I. Osagie from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, in the Maggie Hardy Magerko Auditorium in the Community Center at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. A reception will follow. The service is open to the public to celebrate the memory of Osagie, who died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 9.

Penn State Beaver names men's, women's soccer coaches


Daniel G. Grant, of Sewickley, Pa., has been hired as the new coach of the Beaver Nittany Lions soccer team, and Brian Stoddard, of East Liverpool, Ohio, has been hired to coach the newly-established Lady Lions soccer team, which will begin its first season of play this fall.

March 18 job fair at Penn State Beaver is open to the public


Rep. Jim Christiana of Pennsylvania's 15th District will sponsor a job fair at Penn State Beaver from 9 a.m. to noon on March 18, in the lodge of the Student Union Building. The event is free and open to the public. More than 30 companies and organizations will participate. Faculty presentations on March 17 and 19 open to the public


At noon on March 17, Juliette Storr, assistant professor of communications at Penn State Beaver, will present "Caribbean Journalism in the 21st Century: Globalization, Regional Integration and National Identity" in room 16 of the Student Union Building on campus. At noon on March 19, Javier Gomez-Calderon, professor of Mathematics at Penn State New Kensington, will present "Ramanujan, a Modest Talk About a Great Mathematician" in room 115-B in the General Classroom Building, also on the Penn State Beaver campus. Both presentations are free and open to the public.

Center Theatre Players announce open auditions for 'Cabaret'


The Center Theatre Players are holding an open audition for their upcoming production of "Cabaret," the Tony and Oscar award-winning musical written by John Kander and Fred Ebb. Auditions are open to men and women age 16 and older, and will be held at 7 p.m. on April 11 and 12 in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. The play will be presented on July 29, 30 and 31, in the auditorium as part of the Brodhead Cultural Center's 34th season of summer programming.

Beaver student wins Keystone Press Award


Justin Vorbach, a junior business major at Penn State Beaver, won an honorable mention in the layout and design category of the Keystone Press Awards' 2010 Collegiate Division, a statewide press competition sponsored by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. Vorbach won for a cover page he designed for The Roar, the Beaver campus student newspaper, titled "Oh Boy, George"

which featured a dollar bill with a crying George Washington illustrating a story on the economy.

Penn State Beaver Housing and Food Services announces new Web site


The Penn State Beaver Office of Housing and Food Services has a new Web site at http://www.hfs.psu.edu/beaver/ online. The site features interviews with Beaver campus student residents and provides an array of information about menus, nutrition, health, meal plans, safety and other student issues.


 'Expert Opinion' takes on sports dynasties, dollars, NCAA direction


How do certain athletic programs sustain their success year after year, and how much does it cost to run their programs, especially in a tough economic climate? These topics, as well as the top issues facing the NCAA's next leader, are the focus of three new March editions of "Expert Opinion with Graham Spanier" on the Big Ten Network.

The Medical Minute: National Patient Safety Awareness Week


Studies have shown that people who understand health instructions make fewer mistakes when they take their medicine or prepare for a medical procedure.  They also may get well sooner or be able to better manage a chronic health condition. The theme of this year's National Patient Safety Awareness Week, which is observed from March 7 to 13, is "Let's Talk: Healthy Conversations

for Safer Health Care."
