Hanes to lead Commonwealth Campuses
Madlyn L. Hanes, chancellor and professor of education at Penn State Harrisburg, will become the next vice president for Commonwealth Campuses at Penn State. Hanes will replace John J. Romano, who is retiring June 30 after 42 years of service to the University. (See http://live.psu.edu/story/43368 online.) Penn State Beaver to upgrade recreation facilities
On March 19, Penn State's Board of Trustees approved the appointment of WTW Architects of Pittsburgh as the architect for the design of the Gymnasium Building addition at Penn State Beaver. The Board of Trustees architect/engineer selection committee recommended the appointment. WTW Architects will design and build a 4,000-square-foot addition to the existing gymnasium.

Beaver alumnus is spring commencement speaker
James Janicki, a Penn State Beaver alumnus and a 1986 Penn State graduate, will be the speaker at Penn State Beaver's spring commencement at 7 p.m. Friday, May 14, in the auditorium of the Student Union Building. Janicki, who holds a degree in chemical engineering, is vice president and general manager of Clinical Diagnostics, Life Technologies, Carlsbad, Calif. -- a $3.5 billion company. New faculty member hired for administration of justice program
Mary Pierce has been hired as assistant professor of administration of justice at Penn State Beaver and will begin teaching in the new administration of justice baccalaureate degree program that is being delivered jointly by Beaver, Penn State New Kensington, and Penn State Shenango in the fall. All required courses will be offered at each campus, although students should expect to take some courses via interactive video and/or the Web. Pierce is
currently an assistant professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Western Oregon University. She earned a doctorate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2009, a master's degree from New Mexico State University in 2003, and a bachelor's degree from Whitman College, Washington, in 2000. Public invited to attend Blue and White Tailgate
The public is invited to attend a Blue and White Tailgate, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in the parking lot by the Dickinson Law Building near Beaver Stadium at Penn State University Park. The event is sponsored by the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society and the Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association. Cost is $15 per person and includes a barbeque lunch of chicken, wings, pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and soft drinks.

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a free open house at 9 a.m. on March 27, in the Student Union Building on campus. Students still seeking donations for Haitian earthquake victims
Penn State Beaver students and the Student Government Association (SGA) are continuing their fundraising efforts for victims of the January Haitian earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people and left more than 1 million people homeless. In February Beaver students and the Student Government Association (SGA) launched 'For the Love of Haiti,' a project designed to raise money for relief efforts for earthquake victims. Funds are being solicited in the Brodhead Bistro, in classroom buildings, administrative offices, and at athletic events. All donations will be channeled through the
SGA and given directly to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund. Donations from the public are encouraged.
