Spring commencement honors graduates
Penn State Beaver held its spring commencement 7 p.m. Friday, May 14, in the auditorium of the Student Union Building. Forty-seven students received master's, baccalaureate, and associate degrees. Chancellor Gary B. Keefer introduced the commencement speaker, James Janicki, vice president and general manager of clinical diagnostics for Life Technologies Inc., a $3.5 billion company in Carlsbad, California. Janicki, a native of Freedom, attended Beaver campus before graduating from Penn State University Park with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1986.

Admissions office will host college prep workshop
The Penn State Beaver admissions office will hold a college prep workshop called"'It's Almost Your Time" on Saturday, May 22, in the Student Union Building auditorium. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by the program at 10 a.m. Seventh, eighth, and ninth graders and their parents and guardians are encouraged to attend the program.

Tickets on sale for summer musical, 'Cabaret'
Tickets are on sale for the Center Theatre Players' production of "Cabaret," which will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 29, 20 and 31, in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. The play is presented at part of the Brodhead Cultural Center's 34th season of free and low-cost summer programming for the public.

Free veterans exposition will be held June 19
The Penn State Beaver admissions office will host a free veterans exposition on Saturday, June 19, in the Student Union Building Lodge. Veterans, soldiers, their families and the public are invited to attend. Various area and regional businesses and services that benefit veterans will be available to provide information. Continuing Education will offer classes for educators, counselors
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer two classes specially targeted at educators and counselors. A course titled Early Childhood Education will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 15 to July 15. Counseling Youth at Risk (YAR) will be held from 1 to 4:45 p.m. on the same days and dates. Locations for the classes will be announced. Teams finish third, seventh in USCAA; Fredericks makes USCAA history
On Thursday, May 13, the Penn State Beaver baseball team finished third in the USCAA National Tournament after a defeat by the University of Cincinnati, Clermont College (Batavia, Ohio), 6-3, at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. On Monday, May 10, senior Greg Frederick made USCAA history when he pitched a no-hitter in a win over Central Maine Community College, 3-0. Beaver finished its season
at 23-13. On Sunday, May 9, the Beaver softball team finished seventh in the USCAA after defeating Southern State Community College (Hillsboro, Ohio), 10-2. The women ended their season at 27-20.
