United Way committee approaches $5,000 goal
The Penn State Beaver United Way of Beaver County Committee is close to reaching its $5,000 goal for the year. On Friday, Nov. 12, the group raised a record $1,550 at its annual luncheon and auction in the Student Union Building Lodge. The event was open to all faculty, staff, and students. To date, the group has raised more than $4,400 through on-campus programs, projects and faculty/staff payroll deductions.

Engineering students conduct research with local firefighters
The public is invited to attend presentations that will be made by Penn State Beaver engineering students to area firefighters, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Pine Run Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, Station 59. The students, enrolled in the Introduction to Engineering Design course taught by James A. Hendrickson, instructor in engineering, will give a presentation on the research they have conducted in conjunction with 57 volunteer fire departments in Beaver County. A student team led by sophomore engineering major Jessika Murray will provide an overview of her team's project, "Design of a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Pack for Firefighter Rescue."

Continuing Education will offer credit courses in spring semester
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer six credit classes in the spring semester. Course offerings are The Politics of Terrorism, Educational Technology Integration, Introduction to Health Services Organization, Herbaceous Perennial and Annual Identification, and Counseling and Teaching Youth at Risk. Math faculty article listed in top 25
An article co-authored by Zhongyuan Che, associate professor of mathematics at Penn State Beaver, and Zhibo Chen, professor of mathematics at Penn State Greater Allegheny, was listed as one of the top 25 articles currently being read and consulted by mathematicians. "On k-pairable regular graphs" appears in the journal Discrete Mathematics.

Women's basketball season, players featured in news article
Four senior members of the Penn State Beaver women's basketball team were highlighted in an article about the team's upcoming season in the November 14 issue of the Beaver County Times (Beaver County, PA). Beaver campus reintroduced women's basketball in 2007. The four players highlighted were original members of the team which won the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) championship in its first season as well as its second and third seasons. This year the women are determined to win a fourth PSUAC championship as well as a national title in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
