Auditions announced for Center Theatre Players’ summer musical

Men and women age 16 and older are invited to audition for the Center Theatre Players' production of ‘A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,’ 7:00 p.m., Sunday and Monday, April 10 and 11, in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. The play will be presented in July in the auditorium as part of the Brodhead Cultural Center’s 35th season of summer programming.

Those auditioning are required to prepare and perform one Broadway-style song. Taped accompaniment is acceptable, and a piano accompanist will be available. Auditions will be conducted by Sandy Reigel, director of the Center Theatre Players.

Educators who participate in the production may be eligible for Act 48 credit through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The show won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best Book in 1962. Music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim and the book is by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart. In 1966, the play was adapted as a musical film featuring actors Zero Mostel and Jack Gilford in re-creations of their original Broadway roles.
