Campus will host annual health fair on November 30

Penn State Beaver will host its annual health fair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the lower lobby of the Student Union Building. The event is designed to provide Penn State students and employees with a variety of health-related information and updates. Representatives from various area health care offices will be on hand to talk with visitors.

Students are conducting food drive for BB/BS

Penn State Beaver students are conducting a non-perishable food drive to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters (BB/BS) of Beaver County. Collection boxes are located in the main lobby of the Ross Administration Building and throughout the Student Union Building. Food and any other non-perishable donations must be placed in a collection box by 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2.

For more than a decade, Beaver campus students have served as Big Brothers or Big Sisters for hundreds of area children who are BB/BS clients. Student mentors are drawn from a wide variety of academic programs and majors, including psychology, engineering, science, sociology, and communications.

Rock ‘N Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive will be held on campus

Penn State Beaver will host the Rock ‘N Roll Up Your Sleeve Blood Drive, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 2 in the Student Union Building Lodge. The event is cosponsored by the Central Blood Bank, WDVE 102.5, and NAPA Auto Parts. Beaver campus students will be on hand to assist with the event.

Walk-ins are welcome, but donors have the option of scheduling an appointment ahead of time by visiting www.centralbloodbank.org or calling 412-209-7010. All donors will be entered into a random drawing for prizes and will each person will receive a 2011 Rock ‘N Roll Up Your Sleeve t-shirt.

Faculty Speakers Series continues through March

The Penn State Beaver Faculty Speakers Series will continue through the 2012 spring semester. The public and campus community are invited to attend these free events.

Programs will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesdays, Dec. 7, Feb. 22, and March 14, room 16, Student Union Building. Information about the faculty scheduled to speak and their presentations will be available soon. The series is designed to allow faculty members to discuss and present their ongoing research in a specific academic area.

Continuing Education offers course for CLE credit

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education has been approved by Penn State Abington to offer a course in ‘Unclaimed Property,’ 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 29, room 16, Student Union Building. The course is designed for individuals who must meet requirements for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit. Course fee is $40.

Alumni Chapter launches annual holiday gift drive for children

The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is conducting its annual Gift Drive for Beaver County Children and Youth Services (CYS). The gifts will be distributed to children who are CYS clients.
 
Participants will be provided with the first name, age and gift preferences of a child, purchase and wrap the gift, and drop it off to the Alumni Chapter. In addition, participants have the option of making a monetary contribution to the Alumni Chapter whose members will, in turn, purchase and wrap gifts for the children.
 Donors must attach a separate gift tag to each gift. Each tag must contain the child’s name and caseworker number. The Alumni Chapter requests that each gift have a value of $25 to $30.
 
Monetary donations can be made in cash or via check made payable to Beaver Valley Area Chapter PSAA and mailed to Office of Campus and Community Relations, Penn State Beaver, 100 University Drive, Monaca, PA 15061.
 
Gifts drop-off will be 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9 and 10 a.m. to noon, Room 16, Beaver campus Student Union Building. In addition, participants are asked to bring a nonperishable item for the Alumni Chapter’s annual Holiday Food Drive when they drop off their gift.

Admissions Office will host free application workshop
 
The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a free Application Workshop, 3 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Student Union Building.
 
Participants will visit with admissions and financial aid staff to learn about Penn State’s academic programs while gaining insight into financing a college education. Campus tours will be provided. In addition, participants can complete an application and, if applying to Penn State Beaver, may receive an immediate decision. The $50 application fee will be waived.

Nittany News magazine is available online

The 2011 fall edition of the Penn State Beaver Nittany News magazine is available online as well as hard copy. The magazine, which is produced and distributed in fall and spring semester, highlights campus alumni, faculty, staff, and student achievements, progress, and programs. Magazines from previous years can also be read online.

Penn State Beaver will host and co-sponsor free holiday concert
 
The Beaver County Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Monaca Cornet Band will present a free concert of holiday music at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14, in the auditorium of the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
 
The program is cosponsored by the Beaver Valley Musicians Union, the Beaver County commissioners, and the Beaver campus Brodhead Cultural Center.
