Penn State Beaver alumnus will be keynote speaker at fall commencement
Penn State Beaver alumnus Ted Froats Jr. will be the commencement speaker at ceremonies held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the auditorium of the campus Student Union Building.
Froats is a senior public affairs specialist, news director and acting spokesperson for the United States federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), a $60 billion federal agency with more than 1,000 employees. His responsibilities include oversight of all media and congressional and citizen outreach for numerous ACF agencies, including the Office of Head Start, Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Office of Child Support Enforcement, Office of Refugee Resettlement, and Administration for Native Americans.
In addition, Froats works closely with a variety of Health and Human Services agencies, including the Departments of Education and Transportation, as well as members of Congress and White House officials to coordinate national outreach campaigns. His office has represented and led senior management’s major initiatives, such as President Barack Obama's Fatherhood Initiative and Universal Preschool.
Froats’ high-profile projects have included managing media relations during the governmental sequestration; the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare; and the question of welfare reform during the 2012 presidential election. As a member of the United States Air Force for six years, he was a combat correspondent and television broadcaster as well as an audio/visual specialist. Froats is earning a master’s degree in public administration with a specialty in public policy from the University of Baltimore and holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Beaver campus.

Penn State Beaver, Rep. Christiana to host free Beaver County Job Fair
Penn State Beaver and Rep. Jim Christiana will host the Beaver County Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the lodge of the campus Student Union Building. The program is free and open to the public.
Job opportunities in a wide range of disciplines will be presented, including banking and financial services, communications, education, law enforcement, hospice services, personal and nursing home care, marketing and public relations, mental health care, museum care, Pennsylvania civil service, retail, social services, staffing and job training, and transportation and logistics. Admissions Office to host Veteran’s Day Application Workshop
The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a Veteran’s Day Application Workshop from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, in the Student Union Building. The $50 application fee will be waived for all participants. Admissions Office staff members will be on hand to guide individuals through the application process.
Participants must bring an official transcript. Some applying may be eligible for an immediate decision about acceptance to Penn State. Campus tours will also be provided. In addition, guests are invited to learn more about the Penn State admissions process that day by attending information sessions at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Room 16, Student Union Building.
