Penn State Beaver alumnus will be keynote speaker at fall commencement
Penn State Beaver alumnus Ted Froats Jr. will be the commencement speaker at ceremonies held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, in the auditorium of the campus Student Union Building.
Froats is a senior public affairs specialist, news director and acting spokesperson for the United States federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), a $60 billion federal agency with more than 1,000 employees. His responsibilities include oversight of all media and congressional and citizen outreach for numerous ACF agencies, including the Office of Head Start, Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response, Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Office of Child Support Enforcement, Office of Refugee Resettlement, and Administration for Native Americans.
In addition, Froats works closely with a variety of Health and Human Services agencies, including the Departments of Education and Transportation, as well as members of Congress and White House officials to coordinate national outreach campaigns. His office has represented and led senior management’s major initiatives, such as President Barack Obama's Fatherhood Initiative and Universal Preschool.
Froats’ high-profile projects have included managing media relations during the governmental sequestration; the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare; and the question of welfare reform during the 2012 presidential election. As a member of the United States Air Force for six years, he was a combat correspondent and television broadcaster as well as an audio/visual specialist. Froats is earning a master’s degree in public administration with a specialty in public policy from the University of Baltimore and holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Beaver campus.

Annual holiday concert on campus is free and open to the public
Penn State Beaver invites the public to attend a free holiday concert featuring sacred and secular music, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the Student Union Building auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The concert will be presented by the Beaver County Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Monaca Cornet Band.
