Holiday schedule announced at Penn State Beaver

Penn State Beaver announced its upcoming holiday schedule. Final exams at Penn State Beaver will be held Monday through Thursday, Dec. 16 through 19. Commencement will begin at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20. Classes will not be in session Saturday, Dec. 21 through Wednesday, Jan. 1. Campus offices will open and regular business hours will resume at 8 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2. Spring semester classes will begin at 8 a.m., Monday, Jan. 13. Penn State Beaver police officers are on duty on campus, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Penn State Beaver youth sports camps begin in January

The Penn State Beaver Athletic Department and the Office of Continuing Education are partnering to offer a series of youth sports camps beginning January 2014. All camps will be held in the Beaver campus gymnasium.

Beaver campus coaches and staff members will provide instruction, feedback, and tips to help campers improve their athletic performance as they develop the necessary skills in their particular sport(s). In addition, participants will interact with other campers of similar ages and skill levels.

Baseball Hitting and Fielding Camp for Boys Session 1 - Ages 15 to 18 Saturday, Jan. 11 and 18 - 10 a.m. to noon
Sunday, Jan. 19 and 26 - 10 a.m. to noon

Baseball Hitting and Fielding Camp for Boys Session 2 - Ages 14 and younger
Saturday, Feb. 1 – Noon to 2 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 15 - 10 a.m. to noon

Baseball and softball camps are $100 per camp or $160 for two camps. The All Skills Camp fee is $120.

Continuing Education will offer real estate courses in January

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer a series of courses for real estate salespersons and brokers in January. “Mortgages and Deeds” will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 and will provide the latest state and federal information available in these areas. Course fee is $55.

“Real Estate Fundamentals” will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday and Thursday, Jan. 27-March 17 and will provided a foundation for the study of real estate in Pennsylvania, covering language, principles, and laws that govern the industry. Course fee is $290. “Real Estate Practice” will be held 8:15 to 10:15 p.m., Monday and Thursday, Jan. 27-March 17. The course is an introduction to all facets of the real estate industry and includes a survey of areas of specialization with emphasis on the role of a real estate agent in residential brokerage. Examination of a real estate transaction is designed and conducted to provide a working knowledge of actual forms and documents, including related mathematics. Course fee is $290.

The Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission requires that all real estate brokers and salespersons renew their current licenses by completing 14 hours of commission-approved continuing education. These classes can be completed in a minimum of three-and-a-half-hour increments rather than the seven-hour increments previously required. Dates, locations, and methods used for license examinations may vary throughout Pennsylvania.

Admissions Office will host application, financial aid workshops

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host free programs for prospective students of all ages on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the Student Union Building. An Application Workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Admissions Office, and a Financial Aid Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the auditorium.

The Application Workshop will offer help in applying to Penn State at any campus, and the $50 application fee will be waived. Participants must bring their official transcripts and may receive an immediate admissions decision that day. Campus tours also will be provided. The Financial Aid Workshop will guide participants through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and will provide tips on how to avoid difficulties in financing a college education.

Course in fundamentals of engineering/engineer-in-training is available

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer a course in “Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineer-in-Training", Tuesdays, Jan. 21 - July 15 at PennDOT in Bridgeville. The course fee is $1,221. Course topics will include mathematics, statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, ethics and economics, and a variety of other areas.

Pennsylvania requires that every engineer, with or without a college degree, must pass the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) examination as the first step toward licensure in the state. To be eligible to take a PE exam, a participant must have four years of work in an engineering-related area.
