Penn State Beaver invites public to attend sexual assault awareness programs

3/31/2014 —

Penn State Beaver invites the public to attend two free programs on Wednesday, April 2, in the campus Student Union Building auditorium. The programs are presented as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The second program is graphic in nature and contains adult themes and language.

"Sexual Violence in the Beaver County and Pittsburgh Regions” will be presented at noon and will be followed by a question and answer session with the speakers and audience.

Presenters are Stephen R. Kaufman, Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania; Karen Yoakum, a federal agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service currently working with the Pittsburgh division headquarters on child exploitation and dangerous mail investigations; and Anthony Berosh, Beaver County District Attorney.

“Boys and Men Healing,” which will be shown at 4:30 p.m., is a graphic 60-minute documentary that depicts the lives of boys and men who were sexually abused and who are now focused on speaking out as part of their healing process. The film contains adult themes and language and is for mature audiences only. For more information about the film, visit www.bigpictures.com.

At the film’s conclusion, a question and answer session with the audience will be facilitated by staff members from the Women’s Center of Beaver County. Women’s Center staff will also be available to meet individually with audience members, if needed.
