Center Theatre Players Announce Auditions for Summer Musical

2/29/2008 —

Men and women age 18 and older are invited to audition for the Center Theatre Players’ production of Stephen Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning musical Into the Woods. The play is part of the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center’s 32nd season of summer programming.

Auditions for the musical will be held Sunday and Monday, April 13 and 14, 7-9 p.m., in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building. Those auditioning are required to prepare and perform one Broadway-style song from Into the Woods or any song written by Sondheim. Taped accompaniment is acceptable, and a piano accompanist will also be available.

Into the Woods will be presented Friday and Saturday, July 25-26 and August 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $13 for all ages.

The show intertwines the plots of several fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and explores the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. The main characters are taken from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and Cinderella and are tied together by a plot involving a baker, his wife, and their quest to have a child. The musical also contains references to other well-known tales.
