BASF wins first place at ALA Corporate Spelling Bee
The BASF Corporation team won first place at the 13th annual Penn State Beaver Adult Literacy Action (ALA) Spelling Bee held last week in the campus auditorium. Chris Nightway (team captain), Dave Spangler and Mark Todd walked away with the traveling trophy which is awarded to each year's first place winner.
Geneva College came in second with a team comprised of Jeffrey Cole (captain), Jason Panella and Jenny Pichura. The Center for Hope team won third place and featured Reverend John Flower, David Dauer and Suzanne Healey. The Team Spirit Award went to Blackhawk Schools for their support of the Blackhawk Teachers team of Bunny Oravitz (captain), Kim Baker and Amy Olesnevich.
Thirteen teams participated in the event. Proceeds benefit ALA’s activities and programs, including teaching tutor training, GED preparation, workplace and life skills, family literacy and mathematics.
