Human Services Forum will Focus on Homelessness
The Human Services Forum of Beaver County and Penn State Beaver Adult Literacy Action will present "The Rainbow Connection," a program addressing the issue of homelessness, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in 16 Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. The event is open to the public. Fee is $20 for Human Services Forum members and $25 for nonmembers.
Speakers and topics are:
-- 9 a.m.: Mary Kay Russo, executive director, Mental Health Association, on "Why Mental Illness Can Lead to Homelessness;"
-- 10 a.m.: Dennis Ugolotti, chaplain, Beaver County Jail, "How Jail Time and Convictions Can Lead to Homelessness;" and
-- 11 a.m.: Sam Anderson, vice president of corporation and community service, Gateway Rehabilitation Center, on "How Addiction Can Lead to Homelessness."
The afternoon session, "The Nameless Faces of Homelessness," will be facilitated by Norah Miller, Beaver County Housing and Homeless coordinator; Laura Jurich, executive director, Harbor Point Housing; and Maureen Morelli, executive director, Friendship Homes.
