Students, coach receive honors from PSUAC, USCAA

Penn State Beaver student-athletes from the baseball and softball teams, as well as one coach, were honored recently by the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).

The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team finished third in the PSUAC. Junior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Fair Oaks, PA) was named PSUAC Player of the Year and USCAA All-American. Junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA) was named PSUAC Honorable Mention All-Conference and USCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) and junior Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School, Sewickley, PA) were both named PSUAC All-Conference.

The Beaver Lady Lions softball team finished in first place in the PSUAC. Senior Melissa Swoager (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) was named PSUAC All-Conference and USCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Junior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA), freshman Lindsey Scialdone (Lincoln High School, Ellwood City, PA), junior Jen Hain (Northgate High School, Pittsburgh, PA), and sophomore Kayla Chambers (South Side High School, Hookstown, PA) were all named to the PSUAC All-Conference team. 

In addition, Chambers was named PSUAC Pitcher of the Year and senior Taylor Rzeczkowski (Highland High School, Tarentum, PA) was named PSUAC Honorable Mention All-Conference. 

Andy Kirschner, Beaver campus athletic director and head softball coach, was named PSUAC Coach of the Year.
