Members of The Skyliners and Rock Group Cavashawn Close Out Concert Series

8/24/2009 —
Two free concerts will close out the 33rd season of the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center’s summer programming series at the J. P. Giusti Amphitheater, Brodhead Road, Center Township.
Mark and Donna Groom, members of Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners, one of the region’s most popular bands, will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 27. The rock group, Cavashawn, will present a concert at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2. In the event of rain for either concert, the concert will be held in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building.
The Grooms will present a variety of popular songs and greatest hits by the Skyliners as well as original compositions and songs by other artists.
The Cavashawn concert is co-sponsored by the Beaver campus Office of Student Activities. The group likens their sound to a blend of early Maroon 5 meets Jack’s Mannequin. Cavashawn has opened for John Mayer, Better Than Ezra, Jon McLaughlin, and One Republic as well as other rock artists.
This year’s Brodhead Cultural Center Corporate Partner for programming is Clearview Federal Credit Union. Additional cosponsors of the summer series are The Times, ARA Corporation, Idea Works, and Beaver Valley Musicians Union Local 82-545.
The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association operates the Center’s concession stand, which will sell a variety of hot and cold refreshments before and during the concerts. All proceeds benefit the Chapter’s endowed scholarship for Beaver campus students.
If the concerts are held outside, the Baker-Dungan Museum, located on the hill overlooking the Cultural Center amphitheater, will be open for free to the public from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
