John Chapin is co-presenter for Russian delegates
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, John Chapin, associate professor of communications at Penn State Beaver, was a co-presenter for the Magee Womancare International delegation from Kyrgyzstan at Magee-Women’s Hospital of UPMC. The Civic Hosting Program Domestic Violence Prevention event was sponsored by the Open World Leadership Center and the Library of Congress.
Chapin’s co-presenter was Erin Varner, supervisor of advocacy services for Crisis Center North in Pittsburgh.
Chapin and Varner delivered a session focused on the origins of violence, incidence of domestic abuse in the region, approaches to violence prevention, and victim advocacy as well as an overview of service provided by Crisis Center North, where Chapin is a professional volunteer.
Russian delegates were Aynura Sagymbayevna Kabylova, program coordinator, Street Law Study Center director, leader of the Public Foundation and Center for Civil Initiatives; Sultanbek Zhalalovich Karakozhoyev, president of the Public Foundation, Tuura Kadam; Jyldyz Arstanbekovna Polotova, leading specialist, deputy director, analysis of social politics and social prediction department, Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Kyrgyz Republic; Viktoriya Stepanovna Tyan, shelter coordinator, counselor, Sezim Crisis Center for Women and Families, and Dilnoza Abdilajanova Satarova, protection assistant, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
