Carl Bartuch receives Beaver's Outstanding Alumni Award
Penn State Beaver alumnus Carl Bartuch received the Penn State Beaver 2010 Outstanding Alumni Award at a special joint dinner meeting of the Penn State Beaver Advisory Board and the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society, Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Student Union Building.
The Outstanding Alumni Award recognizes Beaver alumni who have distinguished themselves through career achievement, community involvement, and/or involvement with the campus. The award was presented by Beaver Chancellor Gary Keefer and advisory board President-Elect Nick Andrews, president/owner of Andrews Industrial Controls Inc., on behalf of the advisory board and the alumni society.
Bartuch attended Beaver campus for two years and graduated from Penn State University Park with a degree in accounting in 1975. A native of Industry, Pa., he owns High Tech Finishing, the world’s leading supplier of high quality metal plating finishes for high-end business and luxury aircraft interiors, including Beech Jets, Falcon Jets, Gulfstreams and 737s. In addition, he owns Kegg’s Candies, a Houston-based manufacturer of gourmet chocolates, and Bartuch Holdings Ltd., an acquisition investment vehicle. He is an active campus supporter, served as the Beaver campus spring commencement speaker in 2008, and made a gift of $100,000 in support of the new campus wellness center expected to open in 2012.
Bartuch began his career as a cost accountant with Borg-Warner, a Fortune 500 Company, in Los Angeles, but returned to Pennsylvania to work for Piper Aircraft, ARCO Medical Products, and ARCO Specialty Chemicals. He moved to Houston where he was employed as a financial analyst for Lyondell Chemical Corporation before deciding to launch his own business.
Bartuch credits Beaver campus with giving him his professional start. "My professors at Beaver guided me in my academic choices before I moved on to Penn State University Park," he said. "I’m grateful for that because my days at Penn State were instrumental in my success as an entrepreneur." He is adamant about the advantages of starting his education at Beaver. "If I had it to do over again, I’d still choose the two plus two option of starting at Beaver and finishing my degree at University Park. It was just what I needed at that time in my life."
