USCAA honors Beaver campus softball players
Two members of the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team were honored recently by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
Junior Ashley Watkins was named USCAA Co-Player of the Week, and sophomore Kori Freyermuth was
named Co-Pitcher of the Week in recognition of their performances in leading the team to a 6-0 mark last week.
Watkins batted 11 for 21 (.523 batting average) from the plate with nine runs, eight RBIs, five doubles, one home run, and one triple. On the season, she’s batting .415 and hitting .868 with four home runs, two triples, and eight doubles. She also scored 17 runs and swiped two stolen bases.
In 11 innings of play, Freyermuth recorded two wins, allowed no earned runs, and no walks while striking out nine batters and holding opponents to a .125 batting average. She tossed a no-hitter during her first outing of the week against Franciscan University of Steubenville. On the season, Freyermuth has a 2-3 record and a 2.77 ERA. In 30.1 innings pitched, she had one shutout, two complete games, and held opponents to a .244 batting average.
