Penn State Beaver announces winners of Undergraduate Research Fair

Penn State Beaver announced the winners of the Thirteenth Annual Undergraduate Research Fair held recently in the Student Union Building. Twenty-five campus students participated.
Students were required to work with a faculty mentor in researching their topic and preparing an oral and/or poster presentation in communications, psychology, and sociology.

Poster Winners:
First Place – Arts and Humanities
Student: Taylor Braxton, junior, communications, Moon Township
Topic: Growing Up Disney: Do African-American Disney Fans Adopt Eurocentric Standards of Beauty?
Faculty Mentor: Dr. John Chapin, professor of communications

First Place – Social Science
Students:
Brandon Cahall, senior, psychology, Pittsburgh
Zachary Melvin, senior, psychology, Cranberry Township
Bryan Mooney, sophomore, psychology, Washington, Pa.
Topic: The Effect of Music-Induced Moods on the Recognition of Emotional Words
Faculty Mentor: Dr. Ana Fontes, assistant professor of psychology

Second Place – Social Science
Students:
John Fletcher, sophomore, division of undergraduate studies, Beaver Falls
Brandon Cahall, senior, psychology, Pittsburgh
Topic: A Cross-Cultural Study of Gender Roles
Faculty Mentor: Dr. Ana Fontes, assistant professor of psychology

Oral Winner:

Maddison Miller, senior, psychology, Aliquippa

The Planning Committee was chaired by Dr. Irene Wolf, senior instructor in philosophy. Additional committee members were:
