Brittany Tomaselli will be named the fourth captain in Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball History

Tomaselli named captain of women's basketball team

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Monaca, PA - Bert DeSalvo, head coach of the Penn State Beaver women's basketball team, announced that sophomore Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool High School/East Liverpool, OH) has been named team captain for the 2011-2012 season.

Tomaselli follows senior captains Jasmine Green (East Orange High School/Jersey City, NJ) and Noelle Miloszewski (Blackhawk High School/Beaver Falls, PA) as the program's fourth captain. Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School/Rochester, PA) was the team's first captain.

DeSalvo rebuilt the program when women's basketball returned to campus in January 2007 after an absence of more than twenty years.

"Brittany (Tomaselli) will do a fantastic job for the program. I am very excited for her to become our leader both on the floor and in the locker room," said DeSalvo. "Her role was vastly elevated last season, and she proved invaluable to the team throughout our season. Most importantly, all of the girls respect her and can rely on her. That type of trust is essential for any great leader."

"I am excited to help lead the program in the upcoming seasons," Tomaselli said. "I thank Coach DeSalvo and the coaching staff on trusting me with this honor. This is a responsibility that I am looking forward to. I hope that I can help  the incoming freshman get adjusted to our system seamlessly. The seniors have left a lasting legacy for the program and it will be on the returners and newcomers to not only uphold that tradition but to create a history and memories of our own. I am looking forward to help making that a reality."

The Lady Lions went 23-8 this season on their way to an undefeated PSUAC regular season, and a PSUAC Conference and USCAA National Tournament Runner-Up finishes.
